[ARCHIVED] City of Carbondale Mourns the Loss of SIU Chancellor Carlo Montemagno

Carlo Montemagno

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CARBONDALE – The City of Carbondale is saddened to learn of the passing of Southern Illinois University Chancellor Carlo Montemagno.

Over the last year, the City has worked closely with Chancellor Montemagno to build and strengthen relationships, increase Saluki spirit efforts throughout the community and assist his plan to increase enrollment on campus.

“Carlo was a good man with a bold, innovative vision for Southern Illinois University Carbondale and the region. I considered him to be a good friend. We will miss him,” said Carbondale Mayor John "Mike" Henry.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the Montemagno family, friends and SIU campus during this difficult time.

“Carbondale prides itself on providing its visitors, students, businesses and residents with a unique mix of edge and ease. It’s a cultural town, yet free of pretense, embracing the great outdoors as readily as urban sophistication. Here, we are open to new ideas, experiences and cultures, so you are encouraged to both express yourself and be yourself, in all ways. That’s Carbondale…All Ways Open… for family, fun, business, new ideas and a bright tomorrow.”
