Update: Aggravated Robbery and Shots Fired Investigation
For Immediate Release
Carbondale – City of Carbondale police officers and detectives continued to follow up on the robbery that occurred in the area of the 1200 Block of East Main Street on September 19th. As a result of the investigation, Juan M. Rivera, 30 years old of Carbondale, was charged with Assault, Aggravated Robbery, and Aggravated Battery. The robbery victim who fired the gun is not facing charges at this time as the Jackson County State’s Attorney reviews the case for further potential charges. Rivera was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. The investigation is active and ongoing.

CARBONDALE – On September 19th, 2023 at 6:30 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the area of Chili's (1240 East Main Street) regarding reports of shots fired. Officers learned a robbery occurred in the parking lot of a nearby business which led the victim's friends to chase the suspect into and out of businesses in the 1200 block of East Main. The suspect was then chased into the parking lot near Chili's where the victim fired a handgun at the suspect. No one was injured during the incident. Officers have one suspect in custody at this time. The suspect’s information is not being released until more information becomes available. The investigation is active and ongoing.
