[ARCHIVED] Update #2: Aggravated Battery with a Firearm Investigation

City of Carbondale, Illinois

September 14th, 2023

CARBONDALE – City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to a business in the 700 block of South Illinois Avenue on September 2nd, 2023 at 4:19 p.m. regarding multiple 911 calls for shots fired and a report of a man who had been shot. On September 8th, 2023 officers and detectives located and arrested 15 year old male of Carbondale on a warrant for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm that was obtained as a result of the investigation. On September 13th, 2023 at 12:30 p.m., detectives arrested a 17 year old male from DeSoto on an arrest warrant for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm that was also obtained as a result of this investigation. The juvenile was taken to the Jackson County Jail. The investigation into the incident is active and on-going.

City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to a business in the 700 block of South Illinois Avenue on September 2nd, 2023 at 4:19 p.m. regarding multiple 911 calls for shots fired and a report of a man who had been shot. During the course of the investigation detectives were able to identify multiple suspects which includes juveniles involved in the incident. With the assistance of the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, arrest warrants for firearm related offenses have been sought to include Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. On 09-08-23 officers and detectives located and arrested 15 year old male of Carbondale on one such warrant for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. The juvenile was taken to the Jackson County Jail. The investigation into the incident is active and on-going.

City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to a business in the 700 block of South Illinois Avenue on September 2nd, 2023 at 4:19 p.m. regarding multiple 911 calls for shots fired and a report of a man who had been shot. The shooting victim was driven by ambulance to the hospital for further treatment. The name of the victim is not being released at this time. The victim is listed in critical condition. The investigation revealed the suspect and the victim are known acquaintances. There is no suspect information to release at this time. Officers and detectives are actively working on this case and more information will be released when it becomes available. There is no known threat to the public.
