Carbondale – On 06-21-23 at 7:05 p.m. a City of Carbondale police officers were requested by an individual to be present while retrieving personal property from a residence in the 600 block of West Mill Street. While officers were at the residence, the individual revealed the presence of a firearm owned by the co-resident, Alex S. Settles, 28 of Carbondale, who was also present. The firearm was determined to be stolen out of another jurisdiction. Settles did not possess a Firearms Owners Identification Card. Officers arrested Settles for Unlawful Possession of a Firearm and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. During the course of the investigation, officers also located a stun gun, an illegal amount of cannabis and other substances believed to be narcotics. Officers also charged Settles with Possession of Cannabis over 30 grams and he may have additional charges pending. Settles was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.
