Homicide Investigation 

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Carbondale – Carbondale Police officers and detectives made two arrests in reference to the active homicide investigation that took place in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane on 04-28-23 at approximately 10:53 p.m.   Dewayne E. Jones, 37 years old of Carbondale, and Jeffrey J. Harris, 24 years old of Carbondale, are in incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.  Jackson County State’s Attorney Cervantez reviewed the investigation and authorized charges for both subjects.  Jones is charged with Murder, Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon.  Harris is charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon and Aggravated Battery.

The identity of the victim continues to be withheld pending notifications.  The investigation remains active and ongoing.  Anyone with information regarding the investigation is asked to contact the Carbondale Police Department.

Carbondale – On 04-28-23 at approximately 10:53 p.m., City of Carbondale Police Department officers responded to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane in reference to a shooting.  Officers found a shooting victim and provided life resuscitating measures to the victim.  The Jackson County Ambulance Service responded, provided care and drove the victim to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale where the victim was later pronounced deceased.  Carbondale Police investigators have people of interest in custody and they are working with the Jackson County State’s Attorney to determine potential criminal charges.  The identity of the victim is not being released at this time pending notifications of next of kin.  There are not any known ongoing threats to the public at this time.  Anyone with information about the case should contact the Carbondale Police Department.
