[ARCHIVED] Update - Unlawful Use of Weapons Investigation

 NEWS RELEASE

City of Carbondale, Illinois

March 13, 2023

On 02-24-23, during the course of working on other active investigations, Carbondale Police detectives identified individuals involved in illegal weapons possession. Detectives secured a search warrant for a residence in the 6000 block of Old Highway 13.   During the service of the warrant, officers arrested David D. Ward, 23 of Carbondale on a Jackson County warrant unrelated to the search warrant.  As a result of the search warrant and the ongoing investigation, detectives sought and received an arrest warrant for Ward for Violation of Pre-Trial Release –Possession of a Firearm, Obstructing Justice and Illegal Possession of Firearm Ammunition.  Anyone with information on the whereabouts of Ward is encouraged to contact the police department a 618-549-2121.  The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.

Carbondale - On 02-24-23 Carbondale - In the course of working on other active investigations, Carbondale Police detectives identified individuals involved in illegal weapons possession. Detectives secured a search warrant for a residence in the 6000 block of Old Highway 13. On the morning of 02-24-23, Carbondale Police officers and detectives executed the search warrant. During the search, detectives located two firearms, one of which had previously been reported stolen, as well as narcotics. As a result of the investigation, detectives arrested David D. Ward, 23 of Carbondale on a Jackson County warrant. Ward posted bond and was released pending court. Detectives also arrested Malik M. Reeves, 24 of Carbondale and charged him with Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Violation of Bail Bond, Possession of a Controlled Substance, and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. Reeves was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. The investigation is active and ongoing.
