It's almost that time of year again! Every year, Energizer works to remind people of the simple, life-saving habit of changing and testing the batteries in smoke alarms and carbon monoxide detectors when moving clocks forward for daylight saving time, this year on March 12th.
As of January 1, 2023, newly installed residential smoke alarms should contain a sealed 10-year battery. Because the battery is sealed inside the alarm, it doesn’t need to be replaced and cannot be removed. At the end of its 10-year life cycle, the alarm will automatically alert the homeowner to replace the alarm.
The City of Carbondale Fire Department will provide and install a smoke detector free as well as replace smoke alarm batteries in any person’s home in Carbondale that cannot afford to purchase one. We strongly encourage our citizens to take advantage of this program. The City of Carbondale Fire Department is doing its part to educate about the importance of fire prevention, but true safety lies with you and your willingness to take the steps needed to protect your home and family from fire. Our sincere hope is that everyone starts working towards an educated community protected from fire devastation.
