CARBONDALE – On 9/10/22 at 10:11 p.m. City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 1100 block of East Main Street in reference to a report of shots fired. On 09/12/22 Carbondale officers, with assistance from the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, obtained an arrest warrant for Brooks charging him with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. On 10-18-22 Rodney Brooks was located and arrested for the warrant in Springfield, Illinois with the help of the U.S. Marshals Service. The Sangamon County Sheriff’s Office also assisted with the investigation. Brooks is now incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.

On 9/10/22 at 10:11 p.m. officers of the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to the 1100 block of East Main Street.in reference to a report of shots fired. Officers discovered evidence of a shooting but, there were no suspects or victims in the area. A short time later, officers learned the victim arrived at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale with non-life threatening injuries related to the incident. During the course of the investigation, officers learned the suspect is Rodney D. Brooks, age 35 of Marion. Officers learned Brooks and the victim are acquaintances and engaged in a dispute. Officers did not immediately locate Brooks.
On 09/12/22 Carbondale officers, with assistance from the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office, obtained an arrest warrant for Brooks charging him with Aggravated Battery with a Firearm. Brooks should be considered armed and dangerous. Anyone with information regarding Brooks is asked to contact the Carbondale Police Department. The investigation is active an ongoing.
