 City of Carbondale, Illinois
 October 3, 2022

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CARBONDALE –  On 10/03/22 at 1:24 p.m. City of Carbondale police officers responded to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane in reference to a report of shots fired.   Officers found a gunshot victim and learned the suspect fled from the scene.   Officers immediately provided life saving measures to the victim and the victim was transported to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale for further treatment.  

The suspect is described as a black male wearing a mask covering his face, black jacket, green shirt and green shorts.  The suspect was last seen running north toward east College Street.  During the course of the investigation, officers learned the victim did not survive the injuries sustained as a result of the incident.  The identity of the victim will not be released at this time until family members can be notified. 

Carbondale Police investigators are currently speaking with a person of interest in the investigation.  The investigation has revealed that the suspect and victim are known acquaintances of one another.  The investigation is active and ongoing.
