CARBONDALE – In April 2023, the City of Carbondale will hold an election to select a Mayor for a four-year term and three City Councilmembers for four-year terms. Information and petition forms will be available in the City Clerk’s Office beginning on August 30, 2022; these same forms and additional information are available in the 2023 Candidate’s Guide, which can be found on the Illinois State Board of Elections’ website. Signed, completed forms are to be submitted to the City Clerk’s Office during the statutory filing period of Monday, November 21 through Monday, November 28, 2022.
This election will be for the seats presently held by Mayor John M. Henry and Councilmembers Lee Fronabarger, Tom Grant, and Adam Loos.
Candidates should consult the 2023 Candidate’s Guide available through the Illinois State Board of Elections’ website at www.elections.il.gov and are strongly advised to obtain legal counsel regarding their qualifications for office and how to correctly circulate, complete, and file their petitions.
If five or more candidates file petitions for Mayor and/or thirteen or more candidates file petitions for the three City Council positions, a primary election will be held on Tuesday, February 28, 2023. The Consolidated Election will be held on April 4 and the elected representatives will take office at the first City Council meeting in May.
