On 01-14-22 at approximately 3:59 a.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the area of East Cindy Street and South Wall Street in reference to a report of shots fired. During the course of the investigation, officers learned a suspect fired several shots from a vehicle, described as a small sport utility vehicle, at another vehicle in traffic. The occupants of the vehicles are acquaintances and eventually crashed into one another. The sport utility vehicle was last seen driving east on East Walnut Street from South Wall Street. Damage was discovered at two residences as a result of the shots fired. No injuries were reported.
Officers also investigated reports of shots fired in the areas of West Walnut Street and South Maple Street. Officers discovered damage to a residence in the 200 block of South Maple Street as a result of the incident. No injuries were reported. The investigation revealed that the two shooting incidents are related.
On 01-14-22 officers arrested a juvenile offender for weapons offenses related to both incidents. The investigations into both shootings are active and ongoing.
