Updated Release: Aggravated Unlawful Use of Firearm/Possession of a Stolen Firearm
Carbondale Officers and Investigators continue to follow up on the investigation of the shooting incident in the 500 block of West College Street on 12-08-21. Investigators identified a second individual involved in the shooting incident, Darrion P.M. Sentz, 21 of Carbondale. Officers located Sentz in the 300 block of West Mill Street at approximately 11:20 a.m. on 12-10-21. Sentz had an outstanding warrant and fled from officers when they approached him. Officers pursued Sentz on foot for a short distance and arrested him. Sentz possessed a stolen handgun at the time of his arrest. Investigators charged Sentz with Resisting a Peace Officer and Possession of a Stolen Firearm. He was incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. The investigation continues.

Aggravated Unlawful Use of Firearm/ Possession of Stolen Firearm
On 12-08-21 at approximately 10:46 a.m., City of Carbondale Police officers responded to the 500 block of West College Street regarding a report of shots fired. Officers in the area saw two black male suspects flee the scene. Officers located both of the suspects who ran and detained them. The investigation revealed one of the suspects was involved in the shooting. Officers charged Julius C. Kitt, 22 years old of Carbondale. Officers learned Kitt fired a gun at another male acquaintance in the 500 block of West College Street. There were no injuries reported, however, there was damage to a nearby occupied building. Officers located the firearm Kitt used in this incident. The firearm was reported stolen. Officers charged Kitt with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Aggravated Discharge of a Weapon, Possession of a Stolen Firearm, Resisting a Peace Officer and No FOID.
