Reckless Discharge of a Firearm Investigation
On August 28, 2021 at approximately 9:08 p.m., Carbondale Police Officers responded to the 700 block of South Lewis Lane regarding a report of gunshots. Officers did not locate anyone injured, but they did locate property damage to a residence. Further investigation led to the identification of the suspect as Josten T. Denwood, 29 of Carbondale. On 09/02/21, officers saw Denwood in a vehicle, and initiated a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of Main Street and Lewis Lane. Denwood fled from the vehicle on foot and was eventually captured by officers after a foot pursuit. A handgun was located in the vehicle from which Denwood fled. Officers charged Denwood with Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, Unlawful Use of a Weapon by a Felon, Resisting a Peace Officer, and Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm. Denwood is incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail. The SIU Carbondale Department of Public Safety assisted with the arrest.
