[ARCHIVED] HOMICIDE INVESTIGATION

The City of Carbondale Police Department with the assistance of the SIU Carbondale Department of Public Safety is actively investigating the homicide from 08-22-21in the 500 block of West Cherry Street. The victims of the shooting are identified as follows: 

Keeshanna Jackson, 18 years old of Chicago – Deceased 

Jyrin Blair, 29 years old of Marion – Treated for non-life injuries 

Raheem Sylas, 23 years old of Murphysboro – Treated for non-life threatening injuries 

Juvenile Victim, of Marion – Treated for non-life threatening injuries 

The investigation is currently active and ongoing. The investigation indicates there were multiple active shooters, and there is not any additional suspect information to provide at this time. We ask that anyone who attended the party or that has information about this investigation to contact the Carbondale Police 618-549-2121, SIU Police 618-453-3771 or 618-549-COPS where callers can remain anonymous.

****Previous Release**** 

On 08-22-21 at 3:12 a.m., City of Carbondale Police Department officers responded to the 500 block of West Cherry Street in response to shots fired at a residence where a party was taking place. SIU students and non-students attended the party. Officers found a gunshot victim and attempted life resuscitation measures. The victim was later pronounced deceased at the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale. While officers were at the hospital, three other victims came into the emergency department on their own from the same location with non-life threatening gunshot wounds. The deceased victim is a student at SIU and is not being identified until next of kin notifications are complete. The other victims are also not being identified at this time and they are not associated with SIU. There is not any suspect information to provide at this point in the investigation. The SIU Police Department is assisting with the investigation that is currently active and ongoing.
