Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm Investigation

 

On 06/24/21 at approximately 7:55 p.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to a report of shots fired in the 700 block of South Lewis Lane.  Witnesses reported subjects fired handguns during a dispute.  

During the initial investigation, the suspects were not located and no injuries were reported.  Further investigation revealed that during an altercation amongst acquaintances, Daivon K. Willis, 23 years old from Carbondale, displayed a handgun.   Everett Y. Galloway, 45 years old from Carbondale, displayed a handgun as well.  Eddie Payne, 50 years old from Carbondale, also displayed a handgun and fired it. Willis then also fired his handgun.  Another subject that has not been identified also had a handgun during the altercation.  The investigation revealed Payne gave his gun to Jalen Cobb, 28 years old from Carbondale, who concealed the gun from police, prior to their arrival.  

Eddie Payne was arrested and charged with Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm.  Payne was incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail.  Galloway was arrested for Unlawful use of Weapon and Firearm Owner’s Identification Required.  Galloway was incarcerated at the Jackson County Jail.

Cobb was arrested for Obstructing Justice and released on a Notice to Appear.

 Anyone with information on the location of Daivon Willis, or other information about this case, is encouraged to contact the police department at 618-457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 618-549-COPS. Willis is considered armed and dangerous.  The investigation into the incident is active and ongoing.
