Jackson County State's Attorney's Office-Homicide Release

On September 21, 2020, the City of Carbondale Police Department began investigating a missing person case involving Robin Renee Williams, 41 years old, of West Frankfort, Illinois, and released the information below. 

City of Carbondale Officers located a deceased body in an abandoned house in the 600 block of East Park Street. With the assistance of the Jackson County Coroner’s Office, an autopsy was performed on the recovered body and investigators collected DNA evidence.  

 Forensic experts confirmed the remains were Robin Renee Williams and the conclusions of the autopsy indicated the manner of death was homicide. Carbondale Police detectives identified Michael Lee Moore, 44 years old, of Franklin County, Illinois, as a suspect in this case. Moore was a known associate of Robin's.

Jackson County State’s Attorney Joseph A. Cervantez, filed a four-count Information with the Circuit Clerk on January 20th, 2021, charging Michael L. Moore with First-Degree Murder and Aggravated Domestic Battery. A warrant was issued for his arrest out of Jackson County in the amount of $1.2 million. Carbondale Police Department detectives traveled to Florida and arrested Moore.  Moore was incarcerated on an unrelated charge in Indian River County Florida when he was arrested.

The Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office presented the case to a Grand Jury on May 20th, 2021. The Grand Jury returned an Indictment charging Michael L. Moore on all counts. State’s Attorney Cervantez praised the commitment and detailed work of the Carbondale Police Department in the investigation and explained that he will refrain from further comments concerning the details of the case while his office continues the prosecution of Moore. 

 Michael L. Moore remains in the custody of the Florida Department of Corrections. A bond remains set for Moore in the amount of $1.2 million. The Jackson County Sheriff’s Office will be notified by Florida authorities when Moore is able to be transported back to Illinois for prosecution. Press releases were previously requested by the Jackson County State’s Attorney’s Office to be delayed due to the sensitive nature of the investigation.
