[ARCHIVED] Aggravated Discharge of Firearm/ Unlawful Use of Weapon

On 01-14-21 at approximately 4:59 p.m., City of Carbondale police officers responded to the area of the 400 block of South Poplar Street regarding a black male firing a handgun at known acquaintances in the area.  The suspect fled the area on foot and was later seen by officers running into an apartment in the 500 block of South Beveridge Street.  Officers located the suspect hiding under a blanket in a bed and a firearm in the vicinity.  The suspect is identified as a 17 year old male from Carbondale.  Officers arrested the juvenile suspect for Aggravated Discharge of a Firearm and Unlawful Use of a Weapon and he was incarcerated.  The suspect also had a juvenile arrest warrant from a prior investigation.  There were no reported injuries as a result of this incident.  Anyone with information about this incident is encouraged to contact the police department at 618-457-3200 or Crime Stoppers at 618-549-COPS.
