[ARCHIVED] Fatal Train Pedestrian Crash Investigation

On 07-27-2020 at approximately 12:19 p.m., City of Carbondale Police Officers responded to the area south of the College Street railroad track crossing in the 600 block of South Illinois Avenue regarding a train crash involving a pedestrian. Witnesses reported a white female walked across the railroad tracks as a Canadian National train traveled northbound. The train was unable stop in time to avoid a collision and struck the victim, who was pronounced deceased at the scene. The victim is identified as Holly Stanley, 40 years old, of Carbondale. Both the Grand Avenue crossing and College Street crossing were temporarily closed during the investigation. This investigation is currently active and ongoing.
