[ARCHIVED] Auto Burglary Prevention

The City of Carbondale Police Department is currently investigating several auto burglaries throughout the City in which the vehicles were left unattended and unlocked. Please keep in mind that locking the doors on your car is the best way to prevent a burglar from entering your vehicle and stealing items from within. Most burglars are opportunists who look for cars with the doors unlocked and the windows rolled down. When possible, park your car in a well-lit area, do not leave tempting items like purses, backpacks and other items lying in plain sight and if you have an alarm, make sure you activate it. If you use a key fob to lock your car, please double check that your doors are actually locked. By following these easy tips, you can prevent most auto burglaries.
