[ARCHIVED] Fatal Traffic Crash Investigation

On 01-11-2020 at 7:27 p.m., officers of the City of Carbondale Police Department responded to the 400 block of East Walnut Street regarding a traffic crash.  Officers found a pedestrian, Maria Martin 42 years old of Carbondale, unresponsive as a result of being struck by two vehicles.  Martin was transported to the Memorial Hospital of Carbondale where she was pronounced deceased.  The preliminary investigation determined Martin was attempting to cross the roadway, without using a crosswalk and wearing dark clothing, when she was struck by the vehicles.  The investigation into this incident, to include an accident reconstruction, is currently active.  The Jackson County Coroner’s Office assisted with the investigation.
