[ARCHIVED] Fire Department Raises Money to Help Local Cancer Patients

CARBONDALE – For the fifth year, the Carbondale Fire Department and Carbondale Professional Firefighters Local 1961 donated money to help cancer patients in need of financial assistance.

On Tuesday, November 21, firefighters presented a check for $1,030 to the SIH Foundation. The money will be added to the Cancer Care Patient Support Fund which helps local patients receiving care at the SIH Cancer Institute.

Jill Gobert, Director of the SIH Foundation says, “A lot of our patients have large fuel costs and they have to go to chemo for 30 or 40 appointments, and if they live a couple of hours away, that can really add up."

“Carbondale prides itself on providing its visitors, students, businesses and residents with a unique mix of edge and ease. It’s a cultural town, yet free of pretense, embracing the great outdoors as readily as urban sophistication. Here, we are open to new ideas, experiences and cultures, so you are encouraged to both express yourself and be yourself, in all ways. That’s Carbondale…All Ways Open… for family, fun, business, new ideas and a bright tomorrow.”
