[ARCHIVED] Carbondale Tourism Names New Executive Director

Jordan Wren

CARBONDALE – Jordan Wren has been selected as Carbondale Tourism’s new Executive Director.  The appointment was made by Carbondale Tourism’s Board of Directors at their regular monthly meeting on Thursday, November 15.

As Executive Director, Wren will lead the organization’s efforts in promoting the City of Carbondale, including creating new and strategic marketing plans to highlight the area as a top tourist destination.

“I have always had a deep-rooted passion for Carbondale, and I am excited to be able to continue to excite others about our town and stimulate more pride and activity in our community,” said Wren.

Wren’s work will be guided by Carbondale Tourism’s Board of Directors, led by Board President Rod Sievers.

“The Board reviewed the applications of more than a dozen qualified applicants, and Jordan, due to his experience with the bureau and knowledge of the Carbondale region, clearly stood out above the rest,” said Sievers.

A graduate of Southern Illinois University, Wren has been a resident of Carbondale for the past decade. He is highly involved in the community, serving as the Chairman of the Carbondale Preservation Commission and Secretary of Keep Carbondale Beautiful. Wren is also involved in several planning committees for local events and festivals, including the Lights Fantastic Parade and Celebrate 618.  Prior to joining Carbondale Tourism three years ago, Wren served as Assistant Director of Carbondale Main Street.

Wren’s hiring follows the departure of former Executive Director, Cinnamon Smith, who stepped down in October.

“I am optimistic about the future of Carbondale Tourism and eager to get to work on some fresh and innovative plans, through the continued partnership with the City of Carbondale, Southern Illinois University, local organizations and other colleagues in the industry,” said Wren.

“Carbondale prides itself on providing its visitors, students, businesses and residents with a unique mix of edge and ease. It’s a cultural town, yet free of pretense, embracing the great outdoors as readily as urban sophistication. Here, we are open to new ideas, experiences and cultures, so you are encouraged to both express yourself and be yourself, in all ways. That’s Carbondale…All Ways Open… for family, fun, business, new ideas and a bright tomorrow.”
