[ARCHIVED] Fleeing to Elude

On 04-28-19 Carbondale Police officers investigated the theft of a vehicle from the 800 block of Old Highway 13.  On 04-30-19 at approximately 1:00 a.m. Carbondale Police officers, with assistance from officers with the SIU Police Department, located the stolen vehicle in the area of Poplar and Walnut Streets.  The driver of the vehicle refused to stop for officers.  The suspect driver eluded officers through the City. 

            The driver crashed the vehicle in the 200 block of North Illinois Avenue and officers arrested him.  The driver is a juvenile male and he suffered minor injuries as a result of the crash.  The driver was treated and released from Memorial Hospital of Carbondale.  As a result of the suspect refusing to stop, there was damage to yards and landscaping at privately owned properties as well as City owned property. 

            The juvenile suspect is charged with Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, Possession of a Stolen Vehicle and Reckless Driving.  The juvenile is detained at the Franklin County Juvenile Detention Center.
