On 04-02-2019 at approximately 4:30 a.m., officers of the Carbondale Police Department received a report of a burglary to motor vehicle in progress. The suspect was seen entering the victim’s car and searching through the interior. The suspect then attempted to enter another vehicle before a witness verbally confronted the suspect. The suspect was last seen walking south from the area. The suspect was described as a white male in his late 20’s, with a thick beard, Australian style hat, green jacket and jeans.
Between March 23, 2019 and April 4th, 2019, the City of Carbondale Police Department has received 13 burglary to motor vehicle reports in this vicinity. The following locations are areas where reports have been investigated:
200 block of South Wedgewood
600 and 800 blocks of West Mill Street
700 block of South James Street
900 blocks of South Johnson and South Carter Streets
1100 to 1300 blocks of West Chautauqua
1400 Block of West Taylor
All of the cases involved unlocked vehicles. The Police Department urges residents to ensure their vehicles remain locked at all times and to avoid leaving valuables inside the vehicles or leaving them in plain view. The police department also encourages residents to call the police immediately if they see suspicious people or activity.
