On 10-29-2018 at about 1:35 p.m. Carbondale Police Officers responded to a
report of an armed robbery in progress at Omar’s Food Mart located at 1123 East
Walnut in Carbondale. The suspects were reported to be wearing masks and to be
armed with handguns. The suspects took money and merchandise from
the store before fleeing south bound on foot. During the
course of the investigation, officers located and arrested both suspects after
a brief foot chase and within minutes of the robbery. The suspects
were found in possession of weapons and stolen property. The suspects
were identified as Joseph L Paden, 20 year old male from Chicago, and Jered
McPike,18 year old male from Lansing, IL. Officers charged Paden with
Armed Robbery and charged McPike with Armed Robbery, Obstructing and Unlawful
Use of Weapons. McPike was also wanted on Jackson County warrants for
failure to appear in court for Battery and an out-of-state warrant. Paden
and McPike were incarcerated in the Jackson County Jail.
