Voter Registration Information

Eligibility

To be eligible to register to vote, a person must:

  • Be at least 18 years old by the date of the next election
  • Be a native - born or naturalized citizen of the United States
  • Live in your precinct at least 30 days prior to the next election

Register

To register to vote, a person must:

  • Identification (ID) must include at least the person's name and current Jackson County address
  • Examples of acceptable ID: 
    • Checkbook
    • Driver's License
    • Lease
    • State Photo Id for Non-Drivers
    • Utility Bill or Piece of Mail
  • The second form of ID needs to include the person's name
  • Present two forms of identification

Name Change

A person who changes their name (i.e. gets married) must completely re-register in order to be eligible to vote. A person who is already registered to vote within Jackson County and moves from one location to another location within Jackson County must complete a change of address form in order to be eligible to vote. These changes must also be processed at least 28 days prior to any election.

Register Locations

In addition to the Carbondale City Clerk's Office, you may register to vote or submit change of address forms at the Jackson County Clerk's Office in Murphysboro and the Carbondale Secretary of State facility on West Murphysboro Road.
