The Board of Fire and Police Commissioners is responsible for:

  • Administering entry-level police and fire examinations
  • Administering promotional police and fire examinations
  • Holding hearings of appeal on the suspension, removal, or discharge from duty any member of the Police Department or Fire Department
  • Recommending candidates for hire to the City Manager
  • Serving as an appeal board from any disciplinary action taken by the City Manager
  • Upholding, reversing, or modifying the action of the City Manager


  • Five members appointed by the Mayor with the consent of the Council
  • Chairman elected by other members of the Board
