Mary Rae McPherson is a longtime rail fan, growing up near the mainline of the Illinois Central Railroad in Carbondale, Illinois.
After traveling about the middle third of the U.S. in pursuit of operating steam locomotives and railroads in general, she went to work at Amtrak in 2000. She has been a passenger conductor on the railroad ever since, and still manages to continue her hobby of railroad photography. As the decade of the 1990s began, the Illinois Central was very much in a transitional phase. View Fading Remnants for more information.
