About the Police Department

The City of Carbondale Police Department is a full-service agency that provides 24-hour service to the community and is responsible for enforcing all laws and ordinances of the State of Illinois and the City of Carbondale.

Responsibilities

The Police Department is responsible for investigating all criminal incidents, traffic collisions, special traffic enforcement, and planning for special events. It is also responsible for the enforcement of City ordinances regarding animals. The Police Department functions as an educational resource for area agencies and schools. The Police Department also coordinates and conducts community crime prevention and educational programs.
