Where else can you get a document notarized free except as a service of the Carbondale City Clerk's Office? Simply bring your unsigned document to the City Clerk's Office during regular business hours along with at least one form of identification with you (a signed, photo ID is preferred).
There are some exceptions to the documents that the City Clerk’s Office can notarize. These include documents from which the notary certification can be detached from the document being notarized, documents printed in a foreign language that do not include an English translation, electronic I-9 forms, and mortgage documents. Notary Public Signing Agents receive training to ensure proper completion of mortgage documents and will charge for their notarial acts. The notaries in the City Clerk’s office are not Notary Public Signing Agents.
I-9 forms: The City Clerk’s Office, when presented with original identification documents and the original employment authorization, can sign I-9 forms as impartial witnesses who have verified the identification of the remote employee, but will not affix their seal or “notarize” the employment verification documents.
The notaries available in the City Clerk’s Office are not licensed attorneys and may not give legal advice.
