Carbondale Fire Department - Hydrant Flushing

Hydrant flushing will continue on Wednesday, May 24th. The Fire Department will run two crews from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm. We will flush on the east side on Reed Station Parkway and 19 hydrants in various locations that were missed during the initial flushing process as well as between Lewis Lane and Giant City Road at E. Walnut Street going north. Customers may notice a change in water pressure and possible discoloration. The water is safe to drink. However, if your water is discolored, wait a few hours before doing laundry. If you have water related questions, please call 457-3240.

Daily updates for locations of flushing will be available on City Vision Channel 16 and the City’s web site at www.explorecarbondale.com.

CITY OF CARBONDALE AND CARBONDALE PARK DISTRICT TO HOST SUMMER FITNESS PROGRAM

CARBONDALE – The City of Carbondale is teaming up with the Carbondale Park District to host a series of group fitness classes during the Carbondale Farmer’s Market. 

The “Fresh Fitness” program will be held every Saturday in June and July from 10-11 a.m.

Southern Illinois University Fitness Instructors Kelsey Brommel and Tori Gusewelle will teach a variety of cardio and strength training classes throughout the nine week program.

No experience is necessary. Participants are encouraged to wear comfortable clothes and bring a water bottle, towel and/or yoga mat. A cash donation of $5 is suggested.

In order to facilitate mowing operations,

all ground level decorations must be removed prior to 7:00 a.m., Monday, June 5th, 2017. All in-ground vases will be turned down at that time and those arrangements remaining will be removed and disposed of by Cemetery personnel.

Carbondale Launches Interactive Eclipse Map

CARBONDALE LAUNCHES INTERACTIVE ECLIPSE MAP

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CARBONDALE –Carbondale is excited to provide a new tool to help guide visitors throughout the city during eclipse weekend.

An interactive map is now available on www.carbondaleeclipse.com under the “Getting Around” tab.

It features entertainment, cooling stations, restaurants, shopping, bars, ATMs, public restrooms, first aid stations, parking and other important eclipse information.

The City hopes the new map will help everyone easily navigate throughout Carbondale’s downtown.

In addition to the map, signage will be visible throughout the city to direct visitors to activities.

City of Carbondale to Celebrate National Bike Month

CARBONDALE – May is National Bike Month. To celebrate, the City of Carbondale is teaming up with several area businesses and organizations to host a variety of events. The goal is to promote the many benefits of bicycling throughout the community.

Activities include a bike repair how-to, FixIt station demos, Bike Rodeo and scavenger hunt.

Bike month festivities will wrap up on June 1 with the City’s Annual Bicycle Luncheon at Turley Park.

In November, The League of American Bicyclists named Carbondale as a Bicycle Friendly Community at the Bronze level. Last month, The League of American Bicyclists named the Carbondale Civic Center/City Hall a Bicycle Friendly Business at the Bronze level.

The City currently has 24 miles of bike lanes with more coming soon.

Carbondale Fire Department to Fill Pool at Super Splash Park

The Carbondale Fire Department will fill up the pool on Friday, May 5 at 3 p.m. Members of the media are invited to attend.

The Super Splash Park is located at 625 S. Lewis Lane. Opening day is scheduled for May 27.

Water Service Interruption

Friday, April 28th, 2017 - 3:39pm

Due to water main construction along South Dixon Street. It will be necessary for water service to be interrupted in the 100, 200 and 300 blocks of South Dixon Street; the 200 and 300 Block of South Friedline Drive.
Interruptions are expected to be 2-3 hours in duration and will not start before 9:00 AM on Monday, May 1, 2017. Any interruptions in water service are planned to be concluded by 4:00 p.m.

Improvements for the Solar Eclipse

CARBONDALE –With less than four months until the solar eclipse, the City of Carbondale is encouraging all businesses to give their properties some extra attention as the community prepares to welcome thousands of visitors.
Improvements include touching up paint, landscaping upgrades, repairing sidewalks and repainting parking lots. 
Carbondale Mayor John “Mike” Henry said, “If we all work together over the next few months, it will make a big difference in how people perceive Carbondale.”
The total solar eclipse will reach its greatest point of totality just south of Carbondale on August 21.

CarbondALE Brew Fest

Carbondale Main Street is partnering with the SIU Fermentation Science Institute and Southern Illinois Brewers to present the CarbondALE Brew Fest!  This festival will feature more than 30 brews from all over the US, including ones from local breweries as well as those from Indiana, Missouri, Louisiana, and Pennsylvania.

CarbondALE Brew Fest will be held at the Town Square Pavilion on Friday, May 5th from 6pm-9pm, with early entry for VIP ticket holders, and an after party at Hangar 9 beginning at 9pm. This is rain or shine event!

Limited advance tickets are currently for sale; General Admission tickets are $25 and include a souvenir tasting glass and tastes, VIP tickets are $45, and include a premium (larger) tasting glass, tastes, early entry to the Fest, access to the VIP tent,  and more!  This year, for $100, Platinum VIP ticket holders will also receive an event  tshirt, complimentary lunch and tour of the Fermentation Science Institute earlier in the day.

Pricing will be $30 for General Admission and $50 for VIP at the door.

This year, the event area is expanding to include more food vendors and activities.  The CarbondALE Brew Fest is sure to be a great time, with lots of information from brewers and representatives from more than 30 breweries (a full list, and ticket information can be found at www.carbondalebrewfest.com).  Several breweries are bringing seasonal craft beers and special releases!

Ribbon Cutting for BPL Plasma

The Carbondale Chamber of Commerce will hold a Ribbon Cutting at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, May 2 at BPL Plasma. The facility is located at 301 W. Main Street in Carbondale.

For more than 25 years, BPL has been a leader in the plasma industry. The Carbondale location is one of 33 BPL facilities nationwide.

The ribbon cutting is in recognition of a recent rebranding and BPL’s membership in the Carbondale Chamber of Commerce. Representatives of the Chamber, City and business will participate in the ceremony. The event is open to the public.
