Eclipse Eye Safety

CARBONDALE – The City of Carbondale is encouraging all eclipse goers to wear eye protection when observing the eclipse on August 21.
Viewing the sun without proper eye protection can be extremely dangerous and blinding.
NASA recommends viewing the eclipse through special-purpose solar filters, such as eclipse glasses.
Make sure glasses are certified with a designated ISO 12312-2 international standard, have the manufacturer’s name and address printed somewhere on them and are not scratched or wrinkled.
Note, homemade filters or sunglasses are not safe for looking at the sun.
Eclipse glasses are available at Auffenberg of Carbondale, Dunkin’ Donuts, Fat Patties, First Mid-Illinois Bank & Trust Carbondale, Murdale True Value, Pagliai’s Pizza, Primo’s Pizza, Tres Hombres Mexican Restaurant & Bar and Vic Koenig.
