  2. Personal Safety For Women

    The City of Carbondale Police Department will be offering Personal Safety for Women classes, which are geared toward sexual assault prevention, are designed to teach women prevention and precaution methods and how to escape from an attack should one occur. The class consists of a lecture (which focuses on Alertness, Prevention, Precaution, and Preparation) and two hands-on workshop sessions (during which students will learn techniques for escaping from an attacker). Classes are taught by officers from the Carbondale Police Department. Participants must be at least 13 years of age. Those under 17 must be accompanied by a parent or other adult, and have a release signed by a parent. Class size is limited to 20 people. We also encourage women who have taken the class previously to sign up for the workshop sessions as a refresher course. If you have any questions or wish to sign up for a class please call 618- 457-3200 ext. 402 or send an e-mail to rmathis@ci.carbondale.il.us

  4. Citizen's Police Academy

    October 24, 2018, 6:00 PM - 9:00 PM @ Carbondale Police Department

    The Carbondale Police Department is taking applications for the Basic Citizens Police Academy class. The Academy will have 5 sessions and will focus on an overview of police department divisions, low level patrol tactics and traffic stops, introduction to investigations and crime scenes. The CPA is free and anyone over the age of 18 is welcome to apply for the class. Every applicant will undergo a background check. Our goal is to increase the knowledge of each student on “who, what, when, why and how” the Carbondale Police Department operates. Persons interested in attending the Academy should contact Officer Randy Mathis. Applications are available by visiting the police department’s form page at http://explorecarbondale.com/206/Citizens-Police-Academy or can be picked up at the Carbondale Police Department. Applications are due by Friday September 21, 2018.
