Did you know 9 out of 10 car seats are installed incorrectly? Common errors include not properly securing the seat into the vehicle, facing the child forward too soon, improper placement of harness straps and using a seat that is not appropriately sized for the child. While not all of these errors may lead to injury, in the event of a traffic crash, they increase the likelihood of injury.
The City of Carbondale Police Department is a child passenger safety inspection station. Employees, trained as certified Child Passenger Safety Technicians (CPSTs), are available to inspect child safety seats for correct installation and use. This service is free of charge.
Safety checks are offered every Thursday from 1 to 4 p.m., or by appointment at the Police Department.
