Maple Syrup Making Workshops
The City of Carbondale, in cooperation with the Shawnee Chapter of the Illinois Audubon Society, is hosting two Maple Syrup Making Workshops at Cedar Lake on Saturday, February 1, 2014 at 10:00 a.m. and at 2:00 p.m.
If you happen to be suffering from cabin fever, the City of Carbondale has a solution. Head down to Cedar Lake, enjoy some time outdoors and help participate in making one of nature’s sweet treats. Participants will learn tree identification, tree tapping and evaporating techniques. The tricky aspects of finishing off syrup and even making candy will be covered. Folklore about this historic past-time will be woven throughout this naturally wholesome experience. The activity will culminate with a sweet sample of the finished maple syrup product.
The workshops will take place at the Cedar Lake Supervisor’s Shop and office at 1705 Cedar Creek Road. The event is geared toward people of all ages. The workshop is free and open to the public. Space is limited however, so advanced registration is required. Please call John at (618) 549-8441 for more information or to register.
